Artist's Statement:

Ken Austin is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and the Florida Watercolor Society.

A watercolor artist for 25 years, his work has hung in many national competitions, and is in corporate and private collections from California to New England. His paintings have twice won awards in the Florida Watercolor Society Annual, and also won awards in the Georgia Watercolor Society National, the Watercolor Art Society - Houston Membership Show, Will's Creek Survey National, and other local and regional shows.

Ken is the founder of Orlando's Central Florida Watercolor Society, and has taught several workshops for the Society over the years. In addition to these, he has taught throughout Florida, and in Texas, West Virginia, Tennessee, and other parts of the U.S.

Ken was, for 10 years, a gallery artist with Albertson - Peterson Gallery, and subsequently with Comma Gallery, and others. He is presently represented by Art For All Walls, an Orlando-based business which specializes in works by local artists.

In addition to workshops Ken has taught watercolor courses at Crealdé School of Art in Winter Park, Florida since 2010, where his students enjoy his informative, design-based approach to painting.

Ken's work varies in style and subject from landscapes to expressive figures to abstracts. Two long-running series are his works in gouache-resist; the Prior Restraint Series, based on old family photos from pre-WWII and the Big Women Series, featuring expressive nudes in domestic surroundings, featured in a show at the Seminole State College Gallery in 2013. His most recent series , "Geomancy", features five abstract paintings in watercolor which deal with geographic change and use, on and off this planet.

Ken works in transparent watercolor, acrylic, gouache and gouache-resist, all on paper. His background as an architect and city planner inform his paintings and designs. His teachers include Polly Hammett AWS, Virginia Cobb AWS, Skip Lawrence AWS and many others, and all have shaped his concern for each painting to be a personal expression crafted to invite the viewer to participate in his vision.

Ken currently lives in Orlando, Florida where he practices banjo picking, grandfathering and making great art every day.
