ECOAESTHETICS. Rethinking Environmental Aesthetics
Workshop: June 28-30 | 5-8pm
Location: 1035 N Miami Ave #300, Miami

We are pleased to announce ECOAESTHETICS. Rethinking Environmental Aesthetics, a three day workshop led by ARTSail resident Blanca de la Torre. This workshop aims to provoke reflection on the current debates related to ecology and the potential for art to serve as a tool of action and of subjectivation; a tool which may allow us to rethink the importance of art in relation to the environmental concerns of the present moment.

The workshop will also cover a selection of theoretical approaches to the subject, which provide a basis for the connection between art and ecology as well as chart the contributions of thinkers that have marked the ecological movement and thinking to date. ECOAESTHETICS. Rethinking Environmental Aesthetics will consist of combining these theoretical approaches with sessions that aim to “rethink together” by reading, discussing, and commenting on the texts together.

Participants will be expected to develop a project or idea of any format—examples include but are not limited to exhibitions, publications, educational programs, collaborative practices, artworks, novels, etc—that would reveal any of the ideas examined during the workshop. The goal is to approach art and cultural practices that move toward this ecological vision, and understand art as a way to contribute to the public debate on sustainability policies, to develop creative proposals that — in both form and substance — propose alternative ways, from both a symbolic and a practical perspective, of working with the environment in a fair and sustainable manner.
