Master Artists-in-Residence Program

Next Application deadline Sunday, January 20, 2019

Atlantic Center for the Arts is now accepting applications for our Master Artists-in-Residency Program. Spend three weeks developing your work with the personal support and mentorship of internationally renowned masters in the visual arts, literature, music composition, and choreography. Participation is limited to 8 people for each Master Artist. Click here for full program details.

Located just four miles from the east coast beaches of central Florida, Atlantic Center for the Arts has provided artists from around the world with spaces to live, work, and collaborate since 1982. The pine and palmetto wooded environment contains six award-winning studios that include a resource library, writer's studio, painting studio, sculpture studio, music studio, dance studio, and black box theater.

Each residency session includes three Master Artists of different disciplines. Through a formal application process administered by ACA, each Master Artist will select 8 residency participants. During the residency, artists participate in formal sessions with their group, collaborate on projects, and work independently. The relaxed atmosphere provides considerable time for artistic regeneration and creation.

Cornelius Eady
poet
“Cornelius Eady’s poems are joyous, incantatory, experiential. [His] work is a glossary of earthly objects and human events, and his linguistic responses provide pleasure even when they are provoked by injustice, or by pain, or by loss.” —Dia Art Foundation

Michelle Grabner
visual artist
Michelle Grabner is an American painter, conceptual artist, curator and professor. She's currently Painting and Drawing Chair at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. “All of Grabner’s activities are driven by distinctive values and ideas: working outside of dominant systems, working tirelessly, working across platforms and towards community.” David Norr in the introduction to her exhibition at MoCA, Cleveland

Residency #175
Sunday, October 13, 2019 - Saturday, November 2, 2019
Application Deadline: Sunday, May 12, 2019

Sook Jin Jo
multidisciplinary artist
Thus Jo has taken profane materials and created a sacred art, conveying a sense—indeed, affording an experience—of the numinous, as Rudolph Otto called it. She indeed takes us “over there,” which in her case means into the depths of her interior life, where alone transcendence of the conditions of outer life—the street—is possible. ----- Donald Kuspit, Art Critic

Larry Mitchell
composer/performer/
producer
Larry Mitchell is a Grammy award-winning producer, engineer and performer who has toured the world playing guitar with well-known artists including Tracy Chapman, Billy Squier, Ric Ocasek and Miguel Bosé. He also fronts the dynamic rock/instrumental band The Larry Mitchell Trio.

Joy Harjo
poet / musician / author
“…With a double shot of heart, beauty, freedom, peace and grace that blends traditional Native rhythms and singing with jazz, rock, blues and hip-hop, Harjo is right at the top of the best contemporary American poetry and music artists.” —Thomas Rain Crow, The Bloomsbury Review
