I am a non-objective painter using an internal reference. This form of expression has always provided me with an unparalleled means of conveying emotion and mood. My work is evocative and poetic rather than the descriptive. Painted arrangements are metaphors for things in nature, both physical and spiritual. Elements and relationships come into being, evolve and phase out or transform, just as things do in life.
My current work begins with automatic drawing - a series of gestural, linear movements that come from my interior, from a place of “no mind”. Working quickly, continuously layering paint and medium, pushing it with a brush and hands, keeping no area sacred, I keep the process fluid and in flux. I work over and layer the paint, taking away, adding, and inviting accident over control to arrive at a feeling of resolution.
