I paint scenes that are “spiritually charged” and significant in some way to the observer and myself.
A painting is an expression of time and space. A good painting will take the observer on a voyage to a slightly different dimension of existence. The paint, the brushstroke and colors become more than themselves and creates a new record of life. In the end it all boils down to one point, however, how will I paint the light?! Light is the essential ingredient of all art. Light is color. Light is shade. Light is shape and movement. Light is life. Light is what brings the painting from a picture into the realm of the sublime, a new child in time and space.
A painting is a visual expression of an image but is much more than just a visual experience. A painting should be felt and not necessarily analyzed. The message is often not verbal but more “visceral” than what the constraints of language are able to express. I feel the painting and then I express the vision. I see the completed painting in my mind’s eye as the deeper message grows with each brushstroke. In the end the painting tells me what to do and assumes a life and existence of its own.
