Bio / Artists statement

Having grown up in Central Florida I have seen many changes to our environment. Being a naturalist at heart, these changes intensified my desire to endeavor to capture as much of what’s left of OLD NATURAL FLORIDA on canvas, for others to enjoy for many years. Be it our pristine beaches, rivers, wetlands, tropical flowers or our timeless historic homes, churches and buildings. My husband and I moved to Virginia in 2008, so I have been doing the same here, painting OLD NATURAL VIRGINIA, such as the awesome Blue Ridge Mountains, rivers, rolling countrysides, various destinations and historic places.

I grew up around art, my mother an accomplished artist and teacher was my first teacher and influence. She taught me to observe, for all art is a study. Watching and participating in her demos and events set the stage for me in arts at an early age. I have also studied with many other well known regional artists as well as plein air events. I painted in oils many years but gradually transitioned my painterly soft realism style into acrylics. My paintings originate from a blend of my past studies, and especially from what I experience and record while on location, “special moments in time”, such as the constantly changing light, mood, color and design.

To sum it up, I began my professional art career in 1979 displaying my art in many major juried art shows and galleries for over 45 years. Some of my beach and tropical work was published and sold nationally through a publisher. Many others have been widely collected by corporate and individuals.

From the shorelines of Florida to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, I am inspired by our awesome creation. It is so fulfilling when each painting is finished and a blessing to know they are enjoyed.
